MMF + MRC introduce new site, design by Steve Cox

Welcome to the new online hub for the Memphis Music Foundation and Music Resource Center! This site was built by local web developer Steve Cox, who built his first site, SteveCox.com, more than 15 years ago. And he’s no stranger to Memphis music — Steve performs Native American music as Voice of Golden Eagle.

“Voice of Golden Eagle is a name given me in ceremony by the Southeastern Cherokee over a decade ago,” Steve said. “It is the point at which music changed for me forever. During that time a great man and dear friend, the late Elder Silvercloud, gave me some profound advice:  ‘Play what’s in your heart.’ That sentiment was echoed by Ms. Cordell Jackson who told me, ‘Young musicians ask what they should play and I tell them, ‘Play what’s in your heart, child, and there will always be someone in the front row to listen!” That simple directive has been the guiding force behind this music and has led me to produce seven albums and reach over a million listeners over the years, especially via the original MP3.com.”

We’re grateful to Steve for his work on our new online home, and for his continued support of the work we do at the Memphis Music Foundation. As a web-savvy musician, Steve says now is the best time in history to be an artist. (We agree!) “Thanks to technology, you have the potential to reach millions of listeners in ways that were undreamed of until very recently,” he said. “Your biggest challenge is to learn the tools of your trade, to become not only a better musician, but also a dedicated promoter.”

You can find Steve online at SteveCox.com and VoiceOfGoldenEagle.com.
