Plug In’s 2011 participants were given the opportunity to receive 20-minute one-on-one consultations from seasoned professionals in the Red Bull Experts Lounge. These experts include Yo Gotti manager Artemis “Peppa” Williams (management and artists development), Katherine Sage of Red Wax (licensing), Elizabeth Brown of Ardent Records (publishing/performance rights organizations), songwriter Joe Leathers (business of songwriting), and Mo Better of Hot 107 (radio strategies). The event also featured two touring/booking consultants, Josh Bilue (Nashville’s Exit Inn & Birmingham’s Zydeco) and Chris King (Little Rock’s Sticky Fingers & Rev Room).
As Ardent Music’s Controller since 1998, Elizabeth Montgomery Brown CPA has a broad knowledge base of all aspects of the music industry. Her specialty is in music rights, royalties and contracts. As the administrator of Ardent’s extensive publishing catalog, she has honed her understanding of copyrights and royalties associated with publishing through experience and relationships for the last 15 years. With international oversight and control of several publishers, she handles licensing opportunities and deals regularly with the performing rights organizations and other publishers. Her authoritative role in Ardent’s two record labels calls for her to work directly with all royalty accounting statements generated by the labels – Artist, Producer, Song Writer and Publisher – for the various royalty bearing activities in the Music Industry.
Josh Billue is the owner of the music venues Exit/In (Nashville, TN), Zydeco (Birmingham, AL), and Nashville’s newest venue Marathon Music Works. Josh is a graduate of the University of Georgia, and has worked as a venue owner for the past ten years. During that time he has booked countless acts from all genres of music.
Kat Sage is founder of Red Wax Music Publishing Administration. Red Wax collects publishing royalties all over the world for its clients. The company works on special projects such as music licensing and negotiations and post production supervision for film. Before starting Red Wax, Sage honed her skills for over 10 years working for the GRAMMYs.
Maurice “Mo Better” Rivera
Maurice has worked in the music business for over 25 years in radio, record labels, agencies, etc. He is currently the Marketing/Program Director for urban radio station, Hot 107.1. Maurice takes pride in being an advisor to the Board of Governors of the Memphis Chapter of the Recording Academy, as well as being the Chairman of the Hip-Hop Committee for the Chapter. He is very active in the Mid-South when it comes to entertainment, consulting various artists, as well as working closely with the Memphis Music Foundation, Music Resource Center, and the Memphis and Shelby County Music Commission.
Artemis “Peppa” Williams
Native Memphian, “Peppa” Williams, has had an impressive career in Music over the last 12 years. Getting his start working with legendary Three Six Mafia, Peppa moved on to become a regional A&R for DefJam South and then on to Universal South. Recently, he manages the career of Memphis rap phenomenon, Yo Gotti.
